Who I Am

Hey there. If you're here, it means you're looking to find out more about me and who I am. Also, there's a good chance you already know a bit about my career, and now, it would be interesting to flip the coin and see the other side: Who is Fernando when he isn't developing/working?

So, let's go over some facts about my life that I'd like to share with you!

Let's Start From the Beginning

My name is Fernando Gomes, and I'm 27. I was born and raised in Itanhaém, a city down by the shore of São Paulo, and I lived there for 21 years.

Since I was a kid, I've loved soccer and sports in general. I used to play soccer on the street with my neighbors or ride my bike along the beach. A funny fact about my childhood is that I lived right in front of the beach, so every day, I woke up to the sounds of the sea, waves crashing, birds singing, the whole vibe.

I got my first computer when I was 14, and I never thought I'd end up working as a developer. I used to think about making music, playing for a soccer team, or even owning a small grocery store in the neighborhood.

So yea, life was slowly passing by, and then when I was 16, I decided to put together my first personal blog page using Tumblr. Around the same time, I had a meme blog called "The Fucking Memes" (probably should've picked a better name lol). I poured myself into building that meme blog for three intense months. Once, I got 15k views in a month, which was mind-blowing.

But after an amazing three months, I decided to take down the page because someone left a comment on a post saying: This blog is a pile of shit.

Yeah, I know. When you're only 16, that kind of comment messes with your head haha

After finishing school in 2014, I was still trying to figure out which college I wanted to attend. So, I decided to go for a technical course downtown while I made up my mind about a major.

That was the first time I really learned programming: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and all that stuff.

I was amazed, I loved it, and I wanted to make it my life. Maybe even hack into a company one day, who knows? The thing is, at that moment, I had decided to become a developer, imagining myself in front of black screens, with green letters and black glasses. I WOULD BE THE NEW MATRIX GUY!

2024

So here I am in 2024, living in Blumenau (Santa Catarina) with my wife and two cats. I've been a vegetarian since 2019. I'm a Palmeiras fan. Even though I'm from the shore of São Paulo, I prefer living in a smaller city with more cloudy days than sunny ones. I love snow. I enjoy flowers and fields. And I'm trying to bring more art into my life!

Hobbies

I'm in a phase of taking on new hobbies. I'm getting back to posting regularly here, starting up ceramic classes, and finally getting into reading as a hobby.

My top five at the moment are:

  • 1. City and Colour
  • 2. Terno Rei
  • 3. The Smiths
  • 4. Jorge Ben Jor
  • 5. Montell Fish
